The Basic Art Supplies I Use
I’ve had several inquiries as to what art mediums I use in my work. And although it does vary, I tend to use a few main mediums.

Markers
For my realism pencil artwork, I use a marker base on my paper before going over it with pencil. The marker is used to get a good color foundation down, and it makes the pencils blend with a more flawless finish.
I haven’t dabbled in marker much, since I end up going over it completely with pencil. But I’ve used a few different brands, and I love the smooth lay of these Master’s Touch markers. They can be bought in packs of basic colors, similar colors, or individual markers. This makes them a convenient brand for replacing each specific marker as I run out of it.
Pencils
After laying down the color foundation with marker, I use colored pencil to add in those little details I love so much. I was given a set of 150 Prismacolor pencils as a gift when I was seventeen, and if I’m honest, I’ve never looked at any other brand. I love these. They’re smooth, vibrant, and come in such an incredible array of colors. I can find a match to almost any marker I’ve put down on the paper, as well as the complimentary colors to darken or lighten the shading.
Paper
I absolutely love this hot press paper. I’ve used Canson and Arches, and I love both brands. The ones I use are 22” x 30”, and they are just smooth enough to show the pencil well but toothed enough to catch it and put down good layers. For smaller pieces, I just cut the large paper down to the size I want to work with.
These are the basic art supplies I use in my realism colored pencil pieces. I would love to hear the brands and supplies you use! Leave a comment below or email me directly at info@bryantbarnhandcrafted.com.
